We are currently looking for a Higher Scientist - Immunotherapy to join our Research & Development within the Science, Research & Innovation group.

 

This is a full-time opportunity, on a 6 month fixed term contract/temporary promotion basis. The role will be lab-based in South Mimms, Hertfordshire. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.  

 

Who are we? 

 

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.  

R&D Function within Science Research and Innovation Group focuses on development of biological reference materials and assays within regulatory sciences remit as well as R&D activities in areas of international and national priority for extant and future biological medicines and innovative therapies, diagnostics, and vaccines.

The Immunotherapy team within Biotherapeutics and Advanced Therapies performs research on the efficacy and biological safety of novel biotherapeutics and also provides support and advice for flow cytometry users within the institute.

What’s the role?

The post holder will support day-to-day running of flow cytometry facility and will perform standardisation assays for anti-HLA replacement standards, supporting the Immunotherapy team within Research & Development.

Key responsibilities: 

 

-          Flow Cytometry Facility Support: Maintenance of the flow cytometry instruments, provide support and training to flow cytometers’ users and perform cell sorts.

 

-          Standardisation and Research Support: Support the R&D programme by actively contributing to the projects within Flow Cytometry Standardisation group. Perform experiments involving flow cytometry, cell cultures and bioassays.

 

-          General Laboratory Maintenance Responsibilities: Shared responsibility for the management and purchase of supplies for the Immunotherapy Team. Shared responsibility for the general management of equipment in the laboratory and for keeping the laboratory fit for purpose within the Health & Safety regulations and the Quality Assessment requirements.

 

-          Communication and Networking: Collaborate with other internal scientists. Keep accurate records and maintain SOPs and other relevant documents up-to-date. Analyse and present data.

 

 

Who are we looking for? 

 

Our successful candidate will have: 

 

-          A BSc degree, or equivalent experience, plus post-graduate laboratory experience in flow cytometry and cell-based immunological assays.

-          Experience in managing laboratory resources and equipment.

-          Experience in analysing and reporting scientific data from flow cytometry and/or in vitro assays.

-          Good knowledge of and practical experience in cellular immunoassays. 

-          Demonstrated experience of working independently on own initiative and as part of a team.
