Qualifications:

·     GCSE qualifications or equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience

·     GCSE Mathematics & English is desirable

·    A degree in Biological Science is desirable or equivalent qualifications or relevant experience.

 

Skills & Experience:

·     Advanced IT skills desirable, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Databases.

·     Proven relevant work experience to effectively undertake the role at the required level.

·     Accurate record keeping / data entry skills and effective prioritisation of work combined with a flexible approach are also essential requirements of the job.

·    The post holder is required to have developed administrative skills and experience of general administration and be able to multitask in a busy environment, with multiple interruptions.

·    Knowledge of purchasing systems, maintaining records of expenditure and conducting checks on financial spend is required to allow effective monitoring of the divisional budget.

·     Experience of scientific lab. procurement is desirable. 

·     Experience of working under ISO/IEC 17025 quality system is desirable.

·     Experience of liaising with external suppliers, sales representatives and service engineers is needed in order to negotiate discounts and ensure that equipment is serviced in a timely manner.

·     Good communication, excellent interpersonal and organisational skills are essential to the role; to be able to communicate verbally and in writing with Departmental colleagues and externally, conveying straightforward information, answering queries and interpretation of rules and procedures.

·      Willingness to undertake any on the job or further training required.

·      Ability to work with minimal supervision.

·     Ability to make decisions in determining priorities to make most effective contribution of self and on day-to-day matters and / or technical issues and resources in own area of work. Refer to more senior staff only on more difficult or complex areas of work or where a decision may set a precedent.

·     Ability to induct staff on certain aspects of the role and contractors/Eng.on H&S matters.
