NIBSC has an exciting opportunity, funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Initiative (CEPI), for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join us, to support the production and distribution of reference materials targeting emerging viruses.   
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research. A centre of the agency The National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) is a global leader in the characterisation, standardisation and control of biological medicines.
The Division of Virology deals with all issues related to viruses and biological medicinal products. The successful applicant will be joining the Emerging Viruses Group in a role which supports the production and distribution of reference materials targeting emerging viruses with an emphasis on priority pathogens listed by the World Health Organisation through its R&D Blueprint.
You will be expected to keep an up-to-date knowledge on the emerging viruses of interest (Lassa, Nipah, and others), develop serological assays for the characterisation of the reference material and manage an EO scientist. Furthermore, the role will involve supporting the complex and multi-stranded project management aspects of the grant, as well as the coordination of collaborative studies for the establishment of the reference materials.  In addition, you will manage a scientist and have control of various projects during your tenure.
Educated to PhD level, our ideal candidate will have experience of leading people and projects, knowledge on emerging viruses such as Lassa virus, Nipah virus, will have worked with pathogens at biological containment level 2 and 3 and have experience of serological assay development and improvement, including use of pseudotyping systems. You will be able to make decisions independently, be able to deliver at pace and have the communication skills for a role at this level. To find out more about the role click here.
