NIBSC has an exciting opportunity, funded by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Initiative (CEPI), for a Scientist to join us, to support the production and distribution of reference materials targeting emerging viruses.   
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research. A centre of the agency The National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) is a global leader in the characterisation, standardisation and control of biological medicines.
The Division of Virology deals with all issues related to viruses and biological medicinal products. The successful applicant will be joining the Emerging Viruses Group in a role which supports the production and distribution of reference materials targeting emerging viruses with an emphasis on priority pathogens listed by the World Health Organisation through its R&D Blueprint. You will support the delivery of the project by developing and optimising serological assays for Lassa, Nipah and other emerging viruses. You will also support an international multi-centre collaborative study for the establishment of the reference materials, and the research activities of the group.
Our ideal candidate will have general laboratory experience at containment level 2, with possible experience or knowledge of containment level 3 requirements a track record of record keeping and document preparation, such as a laboratory notebook and standard operating procedures, experience of cell culture aseptic technique and laboratory skills covering molecular and virological techniques, such as ELISAs, virus neutralisation assays and qPCR.
With a suitable level of education, you will have excellent written and oral communication skills, be highly organised and able to work as part of a team or under your own initiative. To find out more about the role click here.
