We have an opportunity at NIBSC for a Senior Stem Cell Biologist to develop and execute a programme of research & development in standards and safety of human stem cell medicines.
 
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research. A centre of the agency The National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) is a global leader in the characterisation, standardisation and control of biological medicines.
 
The UK Stem Cell Bank (UKSCB) was set up as an infrastructure project within the UK’s Stem Cell Initiative to act as a national depositary for UK human embryonic stem cell lines (hESCs) under the licensing requirements applied to UK derivation centres by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. The successful candidate will deliver the work-plan funded by the UKSCB's main MRC grant, actively contributing to other ongoing projects at the UKSCB and to support the development of other projects through applications for externally funded research projects. You will contribute to the development of a research portfolio of projects and provide scientific support and advice on standardisation and safety testing applicable to the UKSCB banking, standardisation and research & development programmes.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in cell or molecular biology, or a related discipline with significant post-doctoral experience. You will have practical experience of pluripotent stem cell culture, an internationally competitive track record in stem cell research and development and experience or interest in standardisation and medicines control and in working under a Quality Management System.
