We have a 18 month fixed term grant funded vacancy for a Support Scientist in our Bacteriology Division in NIBSC, an exciting opportunity to support our exciting development of novel reference reagents for malaria, and the research portfolio of the Malaria Group.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research. A centre of the agency The National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) is a global leader in the characterisation, standardisation and control of biological medicines.
The successful candidate will support the development of novel reference reagents for malaria, and the research portfolio of the Malaria Group, assist in the development of new reference materials for the standardisation of malaria diagnostic tests and immunoassays and support our research programme to investigate the suitability of various in vivo models for regulatory research and as pre-clinical vaccine models for malaria.
You will design, perform and evaluate in vitro bioassays and immunoassays to support the development of new WHO reference reagents for malaria and asssist senior scientists in the development of assays and characterisation of the immune response to vaccines and infection. The main analytical methods will include flow cytometry, PCR, microscopy, and ELISA, as well as extensive cell culture.
To be a success in this role you will have practical laboratory experience in biological assays, molecular biology, or immunoassays and tissue culture, experience of working on several projects simultaneously and have the ability to gather, analyse and interpret complex scientific data.
